So I'm sitting in the departure lounge at Terminal E and waiting to get going on this trip. It's weird to think that I'm finally headed to Mississippi. After all the planning and dreaming and researching, I'm on my way! Yesterday when I was packing I was thinking about my preconceptions of Mississippi — mostly shaped by other peoples' prejudices. The most common response when I mentioned this trip has been "Mississippi???
Why Mississippi???" — usually gasped in disbelief.

So will it be like a Grisham novel/screenplay?
Will it be like Tennessee?
Virginia? (The only Southern states I know) — oh, or Florida?
[Somehow I forgot to consider Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC — but once I was down there, the comparisons were obvious.]

First stop is Biloxi, on the Gulf. I've been to Naples — but I don't think that is like anything else on the Gulf.

So will it be like "Mississippi Burning"? Will it be like "Delta Time"? I'm sure I'll look back at this page in nine days time and laugh...
